Farmhouse. Possibly C16 but evidence of most features seen suggests C17 date with
C19 additions, modernised in C20. Rendered cob and stone walls. Thatch roof hipped
to left end gabled to the rignt. 2 brick axial stacks.
Plan: somewhat altered but basically 3 rooms with through-passage. Probably ower
room to left, hall heated by stack at its inner end. Wing at front of inner room
added at some time in the C17. Outbuilding extension at lower end of uncertain
date. C19 rear lean-to added with C20 wing between them.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front of late C20 2-light leaded pane
casements. C20 plank door at centre under thatch doorhood. Small wing projects
from right-hand end. In apex of gable-end wall of house is wood framed slit opening
with pointed arched head which appears to be C16.
Interior: chamfered ceiling beams in hall, lower room and wing. Fireplace in lower
room rebuilt, that in hall has a modern grate. Roof space not accessible at time of
survey but Alcock's Cruck catalogue records the existence of 2 jointed cruck trusses
which were not seen during inspection.
