Clock and Drinking Fountain
II
Plinth with inscription, bronze portrait roundel, fountain niche and bow on faces, supports clustered columns in pink granite, carved capitals, below block with clock face, gable top and foliated finial. Designed and erected by J. and H. Patteson of Manchester and unveiled in September 1920.
Inscription:- Dedicated to the memory of Sir William Houldsworth Baronet by the people of Reddish in grateful remembrance of the bountiful gifts whereby he enriched and adorned their village and manifested his concern for their spiritual and physical welfare.
(Sir William built St Elisabeth's Church and surrounding complex, and Houldsworth Mill and the terraces of workers houses, as a planned industrial estate in the 1870s).
