No 10 is an early C19 refronting to an older house. Three storeys in red brick
with slate roof on widely spaced eaves brackets. Three windows, hung sashes
with glazing bars, painted stone heads and cill strings to ground and first
floors. Doorcase in painted stone has 2 applied Doric columns with low neckings
(formerly Hawleymoor's nave gallery columns from the Minster), entablature
with pulvinated frieze and cornice. 6-panel door (upper panels glazed in deep
arched reveal with radial bar fanlight. Base rendered under ground floor
string. Garden front various dates. No 12 is a detached wing, part of the
same property. Two storeys in red brick with slate roof. Four windows,
rendered lintels, hung sashes with glazing bars. Plain door frame with 6-panel
door with fielded upper panels, 3-light fanlight. Plinth. A Gothick foot
scraper built in. This wing probably dates from 10-15 years later than the
front of the house. No 10 has a mid C18 staircase with open string, turned
balusters (every other one missing in the lower flight), moulded handrail,
and C19 newel. Handrail curved at top (similar to No 8 Lairgate):(could the
rail have come from Hotham House?) All other features C19.
