Farmhouse. c1760 for Tatton Sykes, possibly with earlier origins; C19
alterations and additions. Brick whitewashed, Welsh slate roof. T-shaped
on plan: 2-room, central entrance-hall south front and 2-room rear wing with
outshut and additions to angle. Plinth. Projecting C19 porch with slender
columns carrying moulded cornice and flat hood, over half-glazed panelled
door and plain overlight in architrave and reveal. 16-pane sashes, and 12-
pane sash above entrance, in flush wooden architraves with sills and stucco
flat arches. Wooden eaves board, modillioned gutter. Hipped roof. End
stacks. Left return: gable end of front range has pair of 12-pane ground-
floor sashes, single similar first-floor sash; 3-bay rear wing has entrance
to right with doorcase and shallow hood, half-glazed panelled door and
overlight in reveal, small 4-pane sash, C19-C20 ground-floor bay window and
16-pane sash to left, similar first-floor sashes. All sashes in similar
surrounds to south front. Axial and end stacks. Rear gable end has 20-pane
first-floor sash in reset early C18 moulded ashlar architrave. Interior.
South front contains mid C18 open well staircase with wreathed corniced
handrail, column-on-vase balusters and newel, and square cheek-pieces;
beamed ceiling, marble pilastered chimney-pieces, panelled window shutters,
fielded-panel doors in architraves. Moulded cornices to rear wing. Not
fully investigated.
