Manor farmhouse. C18. Extended in the C19. Killas rubble with granite dressings.
Scantle slate roof with half-hipped end at the front of left-hand range, otherwise
replaced with Spanish slate. Large rendered stack over original right-hand gable
end, brick axial stack over cross wall of left-hand range.
Plan: Now an overall L-shaped plan. Original house is double depth with
hall/kitchen on the right, parlour on the left with former passage between leading
to stair hall with shallow service rooms at the rear. Extended in 2 or 3 phases in
the C19, firstly with a barn on the left, later by a 1-room wide wing on the right
and finally with a 2-room plan wing at right angles in front of the left-hand side.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Overall 4 window south east front. Original farmhouse towards
the right has symmetrical 3 window front with central doorway. Ground floor openings
have C20 French windows; original first floor openings have circa early C19 16-pane
hornless sashes (there are some C18 windows at the rear). Windows to the other
openings are circa late C19 horned sashes and C20 hornless sashes with glazing bars.
Ground floor window in the left-hand wall of the wing is a tripartite window with
stone mullions. In the right-hand light is an inscribed plaque.
Interior: Of original house has many C18 features including: ovolo moulded beams; 2-
panel doors; dog-leg stair with turned balusters over closed string; moulded ceiling
cornice in the chamber over the parlour and domed bread oven in the large kitchen
fireplace.
