House. Rebuilt 1753 on datestone, Gothicised in early C19. Brick,
pebbledashed and colour-washed, pantiled roofs. L-shaped range. Single
storey with attics, 2-window front. Central 2-storey gabled porch. Pointed
single-chamfered arch under a hoodmould flanked to left by a canted bay with
windows with glazing bars and to right by a sliding sash with glazing bars
under a tiled timber canopy. First floor: oblong window with latticed
glazing bars to porch; gable with ornamental barge boards. To right, a
gabled roof dormer with 2-light latticed window. Raised coped gable and end
stack to right, hipped roof to left. This is the first described of a
series of small houses Gothicised or built in the Gothic style by the Sykes
family of West Ella Hall in the early-mid C19.
