Description

TRESMEER TREBURTLE
SX 28 NW
7/218 Treburtle Farmhouse on west side of
settlement at Treburtle
-
GV II

Farmhouse. Probably C17, extended in the C18 and C19. Rendered and painted stone
rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Brick shafts to axial stacks to
right and left of centre; these axial stacks were probably originally end stacks,
incorporated in later extensions.
Plan: Probably a 2-room and cross or through passage plan with ground sloping down
to right; larger hall-kitchen on left and parlour on right, both heated by end
stacks. In circa C18 the house was extended with a further room on the lower right
hand side and in the late C18 a further range of 1-room and passage plan was added on
the higher left hand side. In the C19 a kitchen was added to the rear of the earlier
hall-kitchen.
Exterior: 2-storeys. Asymmetrical 1:3 window front with C20 windows replacing the
earlier casements and sashes, in the earlier openings. The ground slopes down to the
right. A C20 door to right of centre flanked by a C20 window on the lower right hand
side and two C20 windows to the left. Three C20 windows on first floor. The circa
late C18 extension to left has a C20 window and door on the ground floor and C20
window above.
Interior: Many of the earlier features including the fireplaces have been covered
over in the C19 and C20. The ceilings are plastered and the feet of the principals
have been boxed in. Roof structure not inspected.
