House. Late C17 probably incorporating earlier fabric; rear wing extended in
C18; roof renewed and eaves level raised in 1952. Rubble with cut dressings;
C20 red tile roof with some stacks rebuilt in brick; stone slates on single-
storey part. Main part of house double-span.
3 storeys, 5 bays. Rusticated quoins. Central C20 glazed door in architrave
with broken pediment. Single ground-floor window between traces of blocked
openings on left, and 2 windows on right. 1st floor central keyed oval panel
with 2 windows on each side; all windows of lower floors are 16-pane casements
in architraves. 2nd floor has central 6-pane casement between 12-pane
casements; jambs and slightly-projecting sills re-set when wall heightened
in 1952. Coped gables on moulded kneelers; end stacks rebuilt on old bases.
Set back to right a single-storey bay with boarded door and small chamfered
window.
Left return shows C20 porch on left; 12-pane casement and 4-pane sash above;
2 small stone-surround windows, one blocked. 2 similar small windows
on right return. Rear elevation in 2 sections: earlier right part shows
chamfered ground-floor window, 16-pane sash and 12-pane Yorkshire sash in
former 2-light mullioned stair window. C18 left part shows 3 stone-surround
windows and 12-pane Yorkshire sash. Stepped-and-corniced end stacks to rear
span.
Interior: Inside C20 porch is stone-surround doorway. Older blocked door on
right re-using earlier lintel with triple pointed arches under panel with date
H?
163(?) and initials I A, partly cut away by later oval overlight. West
ground floor room has fireplace, in architrave under moulded cornice, re-set
from bedroom above; similar but smaller fireplace in east bedroom. Old
chamfered beams. Dog-leg closed-string stair with twist balusters, moulded
handrail and square newels with knob finials.
C20 shed to east and C20 west porch are not of interest.
