House, late C16, erroneously dated 1540 and 1539 to later stone panels over first and
back doorways. Hall with north and south crosswings with stair turret of same date to
rear of hall range. Mainly narrow, red brick except for part of the hall range which
was probably rebuilt or cased in brick in C19. The ground floor walls of the
crosswing and stair turret are thickened and have a rubbed brick string to the
upper-edge. Slate roof to front and tiles to rear. Rebuilt ridge stack to hall and
original base of ridge stack to south crosswing. Tumbled gable end parapets on
kneelers to crosswing and stair turret, surmounted by finials of rubbed brick (partly
eroded). Hall of two storeys with window openings of C19 brick but the doorway is
off-centre, at the south end of the hall, and may be on the site of the cross
passage. C19 panelled door. The crosswing to the north has original moulded brick
labels with return stops to two C19 or C20 three light casements. The crosswing to
the south now has one C19 hung sash in open boxing and late C19 canted bay at ground
floor. Interior. The original staircase has been removed and a new one inserted in
the former cross-passage. Some of the ceiling joists in the hall are visible. They
are of substantial scantling, chamfered and laid flat. One ground floor room has
c.1730 raised and fielded panelling. The roof was rebuilt in C19.
