1/195 Blacksmith's Cottage
II
House, formerly several cottages. Lower~range to right is of medieval
origin,taller left range late C17, all much reconstructed C19 and
refurbished c,1980. Flint with brick dressings, some timber framing
with narrow brick infill to first floor rear of taller block. Tiled
roof; central brick chimney, heightened, with original off-set head now
below ridge. 2 storeys. 6 bays. 3 left bays have dentil brick eaves,
off-set eaves to remainder. C20 2 and 3-light leaded casements, those to
first floor breaking slightly through eaves. C20 gabled porch to left of
centre. Interior has central cruck truss with blades terminating
above the collar. One other cruck blade to rear between right bays.
Between cruck trusses is a timber framed cross wall, possibly a spere
truss, with curved brace and tie beam notched to carry purlin. Some
timber framing visible in left bays.
