House. Early C19. Grey brick in Flemish bond, with red brick to left
return. Westmorland slate roof. Double-depth plan with 2-room, central
entrance-hall south front. 2 storeys, 3 bays; symmetrical. Step to Doric
doorcase with attached columns carrying moulded cornice, panelled door and
radial fanlight in round-headed reveal. 16-pane sashes in recessed
architraves with sills and channelled and keyed stucco cambered arches.
Moulded wooden eaves board. Hipped roof. Corniced side wall stacks. Right
return, facing road, has narrow plate-glass sash to ground floor left,
inserted window to right, 16-pane segmental-headed first-floor sashes in
similar surrounds to front. Central stair window to rear has 4-pane sash in
flush wooden architrave beneath dummy round-arched head with painted radial
glazing bars. Interior. Entrance hall has reeded architrave to front door,
opening to stairhall with reeded half-columns supporting elliptical arch
with panelled soffit, moulded dado rail; open well staircase with ramped and
wreathed handrail, column balusters and moulded wall rail; moulded cornice
with ribbed frieze and ceiling roundel. Ground floor left has moulded
plaster cornice and ribbed frieze with lion's head ornament, good
composition chimney-piece with fluted columns with foliate necking, carrying
dosserets with draped urns, frieze with urn and festoons, moulded cornice
and shelf. Composition chimney-piece to first floor left with fluted
columns, figures and festoons to frieze; chimney-piece to first floor right
with fluted pilasters and dentilled cornice.
