2.
A large rambling stone house with steep pitched old tile roofs probably dating
partly from the C16 and C17. Modernized circa 1800 when a compact 2 storey house
of 3 windows was built at the south end. It has 4 heavy pilasters rising from
the ground to a deep plain frieze and cornice with blocking course. All windows
have glazing bars. The 2 ground floor windows are 3 light sashes set in segmental-
headed recesses; 1st floor windows are single light sashes in plain reveals. The
flush quoins, surrounds of the windows and the edges of the pilasters are of a
darker stone than the rest of the house. The central entrance is a square headed
doorway with deep panelled reveals and soffit. Shallow stone porch with 2 heavy
panelled pilasters and a shallow triangular pediment. The roof, of fairly steep
pitch, is slate in front and has 3 dormers - casements - with semi-circular heads.
On the west there is a 2 storey, 3 light bow window with glazing bar sashes and
a canopy extending to right and left on a cast iron frame. Tented canopy to 1st
floor. Parapet with 3 panels. Door to left with marginal glazing in top half.
To east is rendered gable end of recessed earlier part. Bargeboard. 2 pointed
windows with marginal glazing and labels and 2 pointed lunettes below and one above
also with labels.

Wolverton House and stable Block to east of Wolverton House form a group.
