Bakery now Public House. Probably C17. Reputed to have been built in 1595. Rendered
stone rubble. Rear elevation slate-hung above ground floor. Slate roof with gable
ends. 'Early clay ridge tile with equestrian figure'. 2 large stone rubble chimney
stacks in gable ends. 'Rectangular plan altered internally' 2 storey and attic to Lansallos Street.

Asymmetrical 2-window front. Ground floor with 15-pane window to left and C20 part
glazed door set back. To left, 2 C20 2-light casements with glazing bars. First
floor with 2 large 2-light casements with glazing bars. Attic storey with two 2-
light casements with glazing bars beneath raking roof dormers. Rear elevation
particularly unspoilt. 4-window front. 2-light casements with hexagonal panes and
2-light casements above with glazing bars.
Interior with several old baulks from harbour reused as ceiling beams. Selection of
reused ceiling beams, some with tree nails. 1 beam with chamfer and run-out stops.
Fireplace on right-hand gable end with chamfered lintel with run-out stops, possibly
resued. Reused lintel to fireplace on left-hand gable end. Cloam ovens in both
fireplaces. Reused panelling circa late C18 in rear bar. Ceiling beams on first
floor circa C19. Portholes reused in ceiling.
Name derives from previous use of premises as bakehouse. The owner kept her accounts
by use of noughts and crosses to assess who had paid for bread.
