Circa 1812. 3 storey, cement rendered stone house; original tiled roof, double
gabled with valley; flat stone verges with high plain kneelers. A detached building
at north-east end of square. Mid C19 shop in north corner with glazing bars in
all 3 windows; cornice over fascia, upper shutter slides retained. West front
has moulded brick eaves cornice, plain band at 2nd floor level, 4 windows to 1st
and 2nd floors, sash in plain reveals complete with glazing bars. Plate glass
window on ground floor to right of shop window. House entrance is at north-east
corner in a single storey extension, stucco; covered doorcase with pilasters, frieze
with honeycomb rustication and a good cornice, panelled door with rectangular light
over. Return to north has remains of plat band over ground floor. 1 window on
each floor, glazing bar sashes with cambered heads. Return to south has plat band
over ground floor. One glazing bar sash on 1st floor (flush framed) and one on
2nd floor.

Nos 36 to 40 (even) Church Street form a group with Stratford House, Mill Lane
and all the listed building in the Market Square.
