Description

EGLOSKERRY
SX 28 NE
8/24 Treburrow Farmhouse
-
II

Farmhouse, empty and disused at time of inspection (1987). Rendered stone rubble and
cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Rendered shafts to the axial and end stacks.
Plan: The front and right hand side of the house was considerably overgrown at time
of inspection and the interior was not accessible. The house has a 4-room plan range
across the front and a service outshut across the rear. The original house at the
lower left hand end was probably of two or three room and passage plan. Entrance to
left of centre with lower end on left heated by end stack, room above passage heated
by axial stack in higher cross wall and room beyond heated probably originally by end
stack. This room may be an C18 extension and has an C18 datestone which is partly
visible above a ground floor window. The house was further extended at the right end
in the circa C18 or C19 with fourth room. In the circa early C19 an outshut was
added across the rear and a service wing was added on rear of outshut to right of
centre.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical front elevation, not fully visible. Symmetrical
left hand end with probably C19 part glazed door in C19 gabled porch with C19 window
to left and C19 2-light casement to right. Three C19 2-light casements on first
floor. To right, C19 windows on ground floor, one with a C17 lintel to 3-light
mullion window with initials inscribed on front and C18 datestone in label stops of
hood mould. Beyond, the right hand side is obscured by C19 and C20 timber sheds and
outbuildings.
Interior: Not inspected.
