Former gate lodge to Castle Eden Estate. Late C19 with additions of 1928 in
same style. Hammer-dressed sandstone with ashlar surrounds; fishscale-tiled
roofs with stone chimneys. L-plan. One-storey gabled porch with bellcote
projects from rear corner of 2-storey, one-bay front. 3-light flat-mullioned
window with leaded casements and gabled 2-light half dormer on 3 corbels.
Steeply-pitched roof has overhanging coped gables, crested ridge tiles and
truncated right chimney. Gabled left return has 3-light window, first-floor
band on corbels and a small square oriel; gable has pierced bargeboards and
spike finial. 2-storey, one-bay addition to left of return has 3-light window
(dated 1928) and a half dormer; steeply-pitched roof has left end chimney with
re-set ornamental C19 chimneypot.
