5/89 Nut Tree Cottage and Hawthorns

Pair of attached houses. Circa mid C19, incorporating an earlier wing to the rear of
Nut Tree Cottage, probably of C17; some later alterations. Slatestone rubble,
asbestos slate roof with gable end to left and hipped to right, end stacks with brick
shafts.
Plan: Nut Tree Cottage is to left, of 2-room plan with one room to front and rear,
the rear wing of earlier date not accessible at time of survey (August 1986).
Hawthorns to right is of 2-room plan, with central entrance approached by a flight of
granite steps.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 5-window range. All windows at first floor are 2-
light casements, 3-light casements at ground floor with wedge shaped stone heads.
2nd bay from right has C20 half-glazed door to Hawthorns, also with stone wedge
shaped head. Double flight of granite steps, with C20 iron railings and cast iron
footscraper set in the wall. The left side has rear wing of single storey and attic,
of one-room plan, with end stack and further additions to the rear. Raking dormer
with 2-light casement, and door.
Interior: Not accessible.
