5/20 Poldrissick Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Mid C18 with some later alterations of C19 and C20. Stone rubble,
rendered and lined out, rear in painted rubble. Slate roof with gable ends, crested
ridge tiles and gable end stacks with rendered shafts.
Plan: 2-room plan, each room heated by gable end stack, with central entrance to
stair hall, larger room to right and smaller room to left. The service rooms are in
2 rear wings under 2-span hipped roof, each of single-room plan, with unheated dairy
to left and kitchen to right heated by stack to outer side. Attached central rear
wash-house, with small single storey C20 addition to rear left.
Exterior: 2 storeys and symmetrical 5-window range, all windows mullion and transom
casements, of C19. At first floor the second window from each side is a 4-pane sash.
Central trellis porch with hipped slate roof and half-glazed door. THe left side has
external stack; to left single storey C20 addition. Right side has external stack to
front range and to rear with curved oven at the base. Rear has 2-storey wing to left
with 2-light casement to first floor. Door to right. The wing to right has 3-light
casement at first floor. Wash-house has brick stack, with a stable door to the left
side, giving access to the kitchen.
Interior: The door to the rear kitchen entrance is of C19, studded. Dairy has slate
floor and slate shelves, with central slate table end hooks in the ceiling. The
front entrance hall is wide, with a straight stair with stick balusters and columnar
newels. To the inner side of the kitchen, a winder stair.
