House. Early Cl8 rebuilding. Red brick laid in English bond,
mottled with many flared headers. Hipped slate roof. Side
elevations rendered. 2 storeys and attics on a basement. Double
pile plan. SE elevation: 1:3:1 sash windows with glazing bars to
ground and first floors. Ground floor ones retain heavy glazing
bars and are small paned. All have wide frames almost flush with
wall, and are under gauged brick flat arches. Attic has 4 box
dormers containing 2-light casements with glazing bars. Central
C19 doorways up flight of steps. Surround has fluted pilasters
surmounted by cornice hood on foliate brackets C20 door
surmounted by rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. Brick band
at first floor level. Deep eaves have timber modillion cornice.
Rendered brick integral stacks to side elevations. NW elevation:
2:1:2 sash windows similar to first floor ones to SE. Central bay
projects slightly. Central C19 porch up flight of steps. Tuscan
columns and pilasters support moulded flat hood. Part-glazed
double doors surmounted by semi-circular fanlight with radiating
ornamental glazing bars. Eaves cornice is surmounted by rendered
parapet. Interior: Good C18 features including panelled drawing
and dining rooms, drawing room with Tuscan column screen.
Panelled stair hall with open-well open-string staircase with 3
balusters per tread (alternate balusters twisted), inlaid treads,
carved tread ends, moulded handrail ramped up to fluted column
newels and wreathed over curtail. Attic chambers have bolection
moulded chimneypieces and earlier dado panelling.
