House, formerly farmhouse, apparently C17 but of several builds. Rubble and watershot
dressed stone with stone slate roof. Two storeys. Two-cell end-lobby-entry house
with 2-storey porch at left hand end. The porch, which is of ashlar, is gabled with
coping and kneelers and has a single cusped light to ground floor and paired
round-headed lights above. The doorway has Tudor arch and moulded surround. The
front has been raised; double chamfered mullion windows of 6 lights (with king
mullion) and 4 lights, each with interrupted hoodmoulds, to ground floor; square
mullioned windows of 4 and 4 lights above (the latter lacking one mullion). There is
a plain C19 doorway at right and traces of an early doorway under the right hand
window. One chimney to left hand gable, where now abuts a C19 cottage, not included
in the item. Barn adjoining to right hand side (being converted to a house, 1983) is
also excluded.
Above the upper window of the porch is the inscription "WILLIAM PICKELLS 16- which
links this building with Stone Head (qv). (N.Y.C.V.B.S.G.) under Pickells Farm).
