2/102 Outbuilding adjoining
Burnt Hengoed Farmhouse
at rear
- II
Outbuilding. Probably C15, altered C17, late C19 and mid-C20. Part timber-
framed on brick and rubble base with some weatherboarding and rubble refacing,
part rubble with corrugated metal roof. Former cruck hall house of which two
bays survive aligned north-east/south-west with through-passage in south-west
bay. Large chimney inserted at north-east end probably when upper floor was
added during the C17. Bays added at each end in C19, the south-west addition
forming part of Burnt Hengoed Farmhouse. Now only single storey. Framing:
some original parts visible externally. Main north-west elevation: original
part is open apart from remaining sections of wall-framing. However the
shaped doorhead to the through-passage doorway survives. There is a stable
door at the north-east end and the south-west end bay has a 6-pane window
and a door with a transom light and three glazing bars. Interior: remains of
three cruck trusses with collars and also some C17 chamfered ceiling beams
visible. (RCHM, III, p 75, item 8: BoE, p 198; Alcock, NW: CBA Cruck Catalogue,
1981).
