Barn and attached farm range. C16 (possibly earlier) barn refaced C18,
early C19 farm range. Timber-framed barn with later brick walls and old
plain tile roof, brick and tile added range. C16 7 bay aisled barn,
possibly even of late monastic construction refaced C18, end onto road, and
from one side of road end bay, along road 6 bay stable range, forming
another side of farmyard. Farmyard elevation of barn has double doors in
centre. Bays towards road end have piers between them and rectangular
openings in each. Far bays have vent-slits in criss-cross pattern and
blocked doorway between bays and C20 farm building in front of far bays.
Roof 1/2-hipped. Stable range has stable doors and slatted windows, under
segmental arch. Inside barn is aisled queen-strut roof. Jowled posts on
concrete beam replacing baseplate from wall. Tie from wallplate to post.
Light rafter from aisleplate to wallplate. Two curved braces, from below
jowl of post to tiebeam. Curved windbrace from side of post to aisleplate.
Straight strut to notched-lap-jointed purlin under principal rafter.
