SLALEY
DUKESFIELD MILL
Old smelting mill
200 metres south-
west of Dukesfield
Mill bridge.

II

Remains of lead smelting mill, late C18. Coursed roughly-squared stone
with dressings, soffits of arches lined with brick (header bond). A
length of 4-metre thick wall pierced by 2 tall pointed arches with
square-section hoodmoulds, beyond which the wall changes direction to run
up the steep valley side.

The only remnant of the important Dukesfield Smelting Mill; possibly the
superstructure carrying the flues from the smelting furnaces to a
chimney further up the valley side.
