MARSHFIELD C.P. HAY STREET (south side)
ST 7873
14/69
16.7.74 Stable block, and
G.V. adjoining garage of the Manor
(formerly listed as The Coach House
at Home Farm)
Stables and coach house including coachman's house, now a house (to the north)
and a garage (to the south). Late C17, extended mid C18. Coursed, squared
rubble with freestone dressings and quoins; reproduction stone slate roof to
north, corrugated iron to south. The north part is 2 storeys: cross window to
right with ovolo mouldings; large arched carriage entry with moulded surround,
keystone and imposts; two C20 casement windows and 2 plank doors in moulded
surrounds with keystones to left. The south part is probably the former
coachman's or groom's house or room: single storey; 2 cross windows with ovolo
mouldings to right; central blocked door in moulded surround and under pediment,
single square casement window above. A good local example of provincial baroque
mixed with vernacular details.
