Farmhouse. Probably late C17 with substantial enlargements in early C19.
Sandstone rubble, brick, stucco and timber-framing, hipped slate roofs to
front with end stacks. Irregular parallel range plan with C19 range flanked
by C17 timber-framed range to east, the two linked by a third, possibly
early C19, range to the north. Cellar to timber-framed part; two storeys.
West elevation has two bays, glazing bar casements of four lights to ground
floor and three lights to first floor, early C20 gabled central porch and
early C19 door with six panels, stucco finish, moulded wooden eaves cornice,
steeply hipped roof; north range, sandstone rubble, attached to left, has
one 3-light casement to each floor and glazed door near junction with main
range. Rear timber-framed range has heavy framing, four panels high, large
external stack with bread oven to east side. Interior: principal ground-
floor room of timber-framed part has wide oak floor boards over cellar and
large ceiling beams with straight-cut chamfer-stops. C19 part has box
shutters to west windows. Gates and railings: immediately to west of north
range extend for about 15 yards; 2-leafed gates have wrought iron segmental
rails; railings have fleur-de-lys finials to bars and dogbars and are curved
down to a finialed post west of gates. (RCHM Vol II, p 157).
