4/162 Covered yard and cow houses
at Beer Furlong Buildings
II
Covered yards, cow houses and cart sheds. Dated 1870 for T.S.
Bazley. Coursed rock-faced rubble limestone; corrugated asbestos
and Welsh slate roofs. Covered yard runs north to south with cow
house to either side; projecting shelter sheds around yards to
east and west. South end: 3 low-pitched gables, central larger
and higher with large pointed archway; Bazley monogram above and
datestone. Circular gable vents to lower gabled ranges; plank
sliding doors below. Sides of cow houses have segmental arched
casements facing yards. Tall louvred ridge-vent to covered yard
roof with spirelet and iron weathervane. North end: 2 cart shed
ranges at right angles to central block have plank doors. Low-
pitched gable to end of main range with segmental arched openings
below to loft and ground floor levels. Shelter sheds projecting at
right-angles to main block, parallel to cart sheds, are open to
yards on south side with timber post and beam frontage. Further
east-facing cart shed range forms end return to east shelter shed.
C20 covered yard structure to east of main block is not of special
interest. Interior: open queen post truss roof to central covered
yard. Interiors of other parts of building not inspected. A good
example of a planned farmstead of this date.
