Manor house, C15, altered C17, C18 and late C19. Timber-frame with plaster
and flint infill, encased in brick, since stuccoed, old plain tile roof with
medieval style ridge tiles. 3 bay hall house with bay added to right end
C17 and parallel range added to rear left C19 when smaller outbuildings also
added. Front 2 storey, 4 bay. C19 half glazed double door to left of centre
under early C18 flat hood with moulded console brackets. To right C18 16-pane
sash, to left C18 20-pane sash and at left end C19 4-pane sash. Above door and
window to left of it C19 4-pane sash with small gablet over, and immediately left
of left sash a similar sash with another in right bay. Windows have louvred
shutters C19 stacks each side of 2 central bays, that to left a C16 chimney
that to right at end of original building. Roof half hipped. Inside left bay
is service bay, next wider bay hall, then parlour and added right bay. Hall
has moulded C17 ceiling and fireplace. Parlour always had ceiling and has
inserted C17 oak staircase with turned balusters, and moulded handrail and
square newels, remodelled C20. Roof entered through staircase in C17 bay
against original gable which has exposed close studding with flint infill.
Fine arch brace roof with 2 bays over hall with all members chamfered and
spandrels infilled, parlour bay has open collar, and service bay has plain
timbers.
