Primary school. 1815, with C20 extensions. Brick and slate. Symmetrical
front (west) repeating the general pattern of the adjoining almshouses, of 2
storeys, 2.2.2 windows. The roof is raised as a pediment in the centre, with
a stone plaque inscribed.."In pursuance of the intention of Thomas Shepheard DD
his widow caused this school house to be erected for the use and benefit of the
poor children of this parish AD MDCCCXV" above is a square turret with lead
pyramid roof and boarded walls. Red brick walls of Flemish bond, stepped eaves
blue band (with stone corner blocks), rubbed flat arches, pilasters to the
centrepiece, plinth. Casements. Doorway at the south side of the centre (originally the
south side of the building was the master's house) with simple cornice, frieze,
pilasters and 4-panelled door. The north gable (school entrance) has a doorway
within an arched recess (stone key and impost blocks), with a cornice on brackets
and 6 panelled door, above which is a stone plaque inscribed.."This school was
endowed AD MDCCCXVI..". To the east of the north gable there extends a C20
lower wing, in the same style.
