Hall house and cottage, now 2 cottages. Early C15, extended C18, altered and extended
late C20. Part timber frame, mostly encased in brick, part brick. Old tile roof gabled
on right, hipped on left. Rectangular plan of 4 framed bays extended on right and at
rear. 2 storeys. 4 chimneys, one at each end, 2 on front roof slope. Road front: C19
casements with glazing bars. Three, 3-light on ground and first floor of left hand section.
2 plain entrance doors with small flat hoods. Right hand section: a 3-light casement
on each floor, the upper in a gabled dormer. C20 entrance door at side. Interior: Nos. 8
and 9 have many timbers exposed, mostly on first floor. No. 8 has one queen post truss
with a bird's beak moulded tie beam with billet ornament. The second truss has an arch
braced collar with hollow chamfers on the braces which spring from carved bosses on
jowled posts. No. 9 has one queen post truss and one smaller arch braced collar truss
and was probably the service end. Both Nos. 8 and 9 have clasped purlins and curved
windbraces all visible from the first floor bedrooms.
