Bottle Cottages, Nos 1 to 4 (consec)
II
Row of four early/mid C19 cottages built of flint cobbles with red brick dressings. Black pantile roof with gabled ends. Two storeys. Four window range. Two-light casements, No 3 has glazing bars, Nos 2 and 4 have modern windows. Flush panelled or glazed doors, No 4 has modern gabled porch. A remarkable feature is the use of bottle ends, worked into the facade especially over the windows and doorways. The bottle ends are said to have come from a celebration after Waterloo. See Country Life, Correspondence, 11 August 1960.
