NU 2517 LONGHOUGHTON HOWICK VILLAGE

17/135 East House and
West House
GV II

Pair of houses. Early C19, two builds. Front squared tooled stone; rubble
returns and rear. Welsh slate roof, with one stack rebuilt in brick and
rendered. East House, formerly a pair of cottages, 2 storeys, 4 bays. Right-
of-centre renewed door in surround with fluted wood pilasters
and pediment; left-of-centre blocked doorway now with inserted 4-pane sash.
End bays have 12-pane sashes; 9-pane short sashes above. West House, to left,
2 storeys, 2 bays. Right renewed door with 3-pane overlight; 12-pane sash
to left and 9-pane short sashes above. West House windows have slightly-
projecting sills. Common hipped roof with 4 stepped-and-corniced ridge stacks.

Single-storey part to right of East House is altered and not of special
interest.
