Private chapel. Built 1616 by Sir John Fitzjames. Roughcast walls on
rubble stone plinth, with ashlar quoins and dressings. Buttresses of rubble
stone with ashlar dressings. Stone slate roof, with coped gables, and
parapet to porch. Small gabled bell turret at west end, with strapwork
ornament and one bell. Single-cell plan, with west porch. 4-centred arched
doorway in south wall of porch, in square frame, with hoodmould. Coat of Arms
above this. Parapet has strapwork and floral ornament; the centre section
raised, with ball finial. South wall, buttressed, has two 3-light-square-
headed windows, with 4-centred arched lights; the centre light raised, under
hoodmould. East window, pointed arched, of 3 lights, with Perpendicular
tracery. In north wall, one window matching those in south wall. Internal
walls plastered. Pointed waggon roof, with moulded ribs and carved bosses,
plastered between rafters. Early C17 panelling round walls, with ornamental
pilasters and moulded capping. Early C17 pews, with ends of varying design -
panelled - reeded, and with strapwork ornament, and circular finials. Hat
pegs to each pew. Altar table made up of C17 panelling. Early C17 2-decker
pulpit with tester, with pilasters and strapwork ornament. C17 glass in
windows, with inscription commemorating the building of the chapel. C13
circular font, with moulded base, in porch. A very good C17 chapel retaining
