Late C16 or early C17 hall house originally on a half-H plan with wings to the west.
Altered and extended in the C18 and later and wings built flush. Walls of stone and
stone-and-flint banding partly rendered with some timber framing. Tiled roofs with
stone eaves courses. Many original features including stone mullioned windows, the
remains of a gable chimney on north wing, a four-centred stone doorcase and a fine
ornamental plaster ceiling with frieze in the north wing. In the north wing too
(formerly solar and parlour) is a concealed fireplace and wall paintings. C18 features
include a 6 panelled door on the west front with ornamental fanlight and pediment,
fireplaces, plaster cornice and joinery. A most interesting and important early town
