Originally the Greyhound Inn. After the fire, if not before, it belonged to
the Bastard family and was rebuilt by them. It had been completed by 1753.
It has a 3 storey 7 window front, now stucco. The central 3 bays have Corinthian
pilasters and pediment. Enriched modillions to eaves cornice and pediment.
All upper windows have enriched architraves and keystones. 2nd floor windows
have shaped aprons with carved masks. At lst floor level there is a continuous
penthouse with coved soffit. Plain sash windows without glazing bars to ground
floor. An old print shows a carved greyhound in the tympanum. See the Bastards

All the listed buildings in Market Place, and Nos 59 to 73 (odd) East Street,
Conyer's Filling Station, Nos 1 to 7 (odd), Nos 2 to 8 (even) and No 12 West
Street, and Church of St Peter and St Paul form a group.
