6/35 Bridgeways, Oldbury House
II
Former rectory, later St. George's Diocesan Training School, in use
at time of survey as therapeutic home for adolescents (November
1985). c1833 by Rowland Paul. Rendered on plinth, hipped slate
roof, small rendered ridge stacks with moulded cornice. Two-storey
front range; several later additions to rear not of special
interest. Seven windows, 12-pane sashes to first floor, 18-pane to
ground floor, all with moulded architraves. End bays set slightly
forward and centre bay projecting with Ionic portico with twin
unfluted columns, plain architrave, frieze and cornice, and wrought
iron balustrade over forming balcony. Central double leaf door of
6 panels, top 4 fielded, lower 2 moulded and recessed, with wide
margin glazed fanlight over door and side lights. Some glazing
bars missing on ground floor.
Interior retains much original joinery, especially internal
shutters on both floors, and carved doorcases.
