Five chest tombs; two headstones and one pedestal monument.
a) Chest tomb to Elizabeth wife of John Walker on the eastern edge
of the-.group. Limestone. Probably mid C18. Illegible fielded
inscription panel on the south side, flanked by fielded
marginal panels, similar panel with inscription to Elizabeth
Walker on the south side; fielded panels at each end. Deep
capping, moulded margin and a hipped upper capping.
b) & c) Two matching headstones immediately north-west of the
preceding. Probably late C17-early C18. Limestone. Traces of
illegible inscriptions. Single cherub's head at the top of
each headstone; the cherub holds a bible in one hand and a
skull in the other; fruit and flowers below the cherub's head
on the left hand headstone; the inscription panels of both
headstones are draped with swags.
d) Remains of chest tomb cl.5m to the west of the preceding.
Limestone. The tomb now only comprises a moulded base on which
rests a deep capping with a moulded margin.
e) Chest tomb c0.5m south of the preceding with partially
illegible inscription panels on the north and south. Limestone
and sandstone. Fielded inscription panel with moulded surround
and fielded marginal panels'on the north; similar inscription
panel on the south side but with marginal panels decorated with
a large flower motif with smaller flowers at the bottom. Lyre-
shaped ends: crowned open bible with 2 cherubs' heads below at
the west end; cartouche-like inscription panel with a
partially legible inscription at the east end. Sandstone
capping with a moulded margin.
f) Pedestal monument. c2m to south-west of the preceding, in
memory of Mary, wife of Richard Liffully Senior of Elks tone,
died 1774; Mary, daughter of the above. Limestone. Square
plinth comprising 2 steps: moulded base to tomb. Fielded
inscription panel with a beaded margin and an inscription to
Mary Liffully on the north side, frieze decorated with unlobed
acanthus; similar but unused inscription panel and frieze on
the south. Fielded inscription panel with a partially legible
inscription on the east side with a frieze with swag and
formerly with roundels possibly in adifferent material, now
removed; similar inscription panel on the west side now
largely obscured by ivy; moulded pyramidal capping.
g) Chest tomb to John Mills c0.75m to the north of the preceding.
Limestone. Early C18, reused C19. Fielded inscription panel
on the north-facing side to John Mills senior, died 1825;
marginal panels with cherubs' heads and ribbon ties linked to
bunches of flowers; quarter balusters at the corners.
Inscription on the south facing side also with a C19
inscription highlighted in black; fielded marginal panels.
Unused oval red sandstone inscription panel with a moulded
margin and irregularly shaped fielded panels above and below.
There was probably formerly a similar oval panel at the west
end now lost, but the fixing hole is still visible; crossed
bones and an hourglass below. Deep capping with a moulded
margin.
h) Chest tomb c0.70m north of the preceding, to Thomas Mills, died
1753. Limestone. Partially legible fielded inscription panel
on the north with sunken marginal panels. Inscription to John
Mills on the south-facing side with similar marginal panels.
Fielded inscription panels at either end. Beaded moulding
below the capping is continued all round the monument. Deep
capping with moulded margin and hipped upper capping stone.
