Country house. Of Elizabethan origin on an E plan but altered probably late
C17, plastered, refenestrated and much altered 1819. Thus south front appears
C17 with Georgian detail on an antiquated plan. Brick with roofs of plain
tiles and slate. 2 storeys and dormer attic in 11 bays. 2 projecting bays
each end under hipped roofs. Central 2 storey porch with square opening
flanked by Ionic pilaster strips and architrave. String course at first
floor. Early C19 sash windows with glazing bars throughout. Moulded timber
eaves cornice. Gabled roof to main range with 3 dormers, the centre one
pedimented, the others with segmental pediments. One pedimented dormer in
each hipped cross wing. Asymmetrically placed stacks of various dates appear
above roof line. 2 storey early C19 extension to east front. North front
of 2½ storeys below parapet which obscures 4 hipped roofs. 2 projecting bays
each end also under hipped roof. Facade of 8 irregular bays. Sashes as
before, some with round glazed heads. Square central portico porch on Tuscan
columns and pilasters.
