Four Newman monuments, in the
churchyard, about 10m west of north
west corner of Church of St Mary

One chest tomb, one pedestal and 2 ledger slabs. 1810 to 1862.
Stone. Chest tomb William Newman, died 1810: flat lid, moulded
edge, slightly indented corners, raised oval to sides, plain edge,
vine scroll over on south side, willow on north. Ends wide
pilasters, egg and dart frieze, 3 flowers below, with drapery over
in sunk panel east end, urn with inverted torches behind on west:
moulded base. All on plinth with moulded top. To west raised,
flat slab; commemorates Elizabeth Newman, died 1842: good
lettering, part italic. To north of first, pedestal tomb, to
various Newman children, died 1820 - 1849. Swept top, moulded
edge, blocking course, slight slope to moulded edge to lid.
Corners slightly indented- below. Plain frieze each side, raised
rectangular panel with sunk margin and scalloped corners, moulded
base. To east of pedestal tomb flat slab, Jeremiah Newman, died
1862, bold capitals. Each of four set on flat paving and
originally surrounded by iron railings. Interesting family group.
