Description

ST 82 SW STOUR PROVOST STOUR ROW

3/160 Sweet's Farmhouse
16.8.60
- II

Farmhouse, C17. Coursed, squared rubble with thatched roof, hipped
right and gabled left. Brick stacks to end of ridge and to right of
front door. 1½ storeys, 4 window range. 3 and 4-light, hollow
chamfered, stone mullioned windows, some with returned labels.
(Some are C20 replacements). C20 gabled porch. Part glazed door.
Brick outshut left and stone outshut right. Internally the plan was
originally of 3 rooms with a stack backing onto the cross-passage.
The partition between the 2 main rooms has been removed and the lower
end room appears to have been at least partly rebuilt, probably in
the C18. Open fireplace with chamfered timber bressummer. Middle
room has ceiling of intersecting, deep chamfered beams and wall-plates.
Upper end room has deep, stop-chamfered beams. Room beyond cross
passage has shallow chamfered beams. Remains of fireplace with
chamfered, 4-centred head upstairs.
