Gate piers. Early-mid C18 for the Aston Hall estate of Lord Holderness.
Ashlar sandstone. Each pier consists of 4 joined shafts with 5 bands of
vermiculated rustication. Plain strip up each inner face. Cornice with
blocking course and plinth with small ball finials probably replacing much
larger balls. Relic from the earlier Aston Hall pulled down c1770 and
replaced by the present building by John Carr and now known as Aughton Court
(q.v). Attached walling not of special interest.
