Steps and urns. 1866-1867 for Charles Thellusson. Marble. 4 sets of steps:
3 sets along south garden front, the 4th set opposite west front. Each has
well-carved greyhounds (couchant and facing inwards) flanking a 7-rise flight
with ashlar-coped side walls ramping up to broad-rimmed urns on square bases.
Matching urns stand separately at each end of the south and west terrace.
Commissioned in Italy by Chevalier Casentini who provided many marble sculptures
for the interior of Brodsworth Hall (q.v.). Account books cited by Girouard (p.876)
note a consignment in 1867 of "..marble steps and figures and Fountain vase in
Pleasure grounds".
