Description

KIRKBY KIRKBY LANE
NZ 50 NW
West side
4/155 The Cottages:
Ivy House

GV II

House, formerly two dwellings, now part of an irregular row. Once
a farmhouse, possibly a longhouse, but now a private residence. 2
builds. Probably a mid C18 rebuilding, at least in part. Coursed
herringbone-tooled sandstone, the left stones larger. Pantiled
roof with stone ridge, copings and stacks. Hearth-passage plan
with barn at right, and left extension.

2 storeys, 6 bays in all. Boarded door under extended keyed lintel
in through-passage position. 2 inserted 6-panel doors in third and
fourth bays, the second dating from an earlier division into 2
units. House part on right has three 4-pane sashes (one an early
window, lost intermediate bars) and a Yorkshire sash. Barn part
has a stable-type window above the passage door and at right an
external stone stair to loft door. Left part has two 16-pane
sashes in wood boxes, with stone cills, on each floor. 2 stepped
and cornice-banded ridge stacks.
