Barn. Probably C16 with C18 and C19 alterations. Timber-framed, outer
walls rebuilt in coursed split cobbles with limestone quoins; pantile roof
with eaves course of stone slates. Tall rectangular aisled building of 4½
bays. South side: recessed boarded double door to right of centre;
buttress to right; tall vents blocked by bricks; steeply-pitched roof.
Rear: low wheelhouse attached to centre. Interior: 4 trusses survive,
composed of posts on padstones, curved braces to tie beams of heavy scantling
and supporting queen struts with purlins and common rafters, some with
collars surviving. Aisle plates link trusses and outer wall plate survives
on the south side. Mortice holes in back of aisle posts for braces to
former timber framed outer walls. A stone partition wall is built under the
second truss from the west end. There is reference to a timber-framed barn
at Sutton Grange in 1541 among documents of Fountains Abbey. North
