Barn and cattle shelter range. c1820. Coursed squared gritstone, ashlar
dressings, corrugated asbestos roof. L-shaped range: 9-bay, 2-storey south-
facing range with 2-bay barn attached to right. Main range: ground floor
formerly an open arcade of a round arches with impost bands, left bay
obscured by later low range, not of special interest. The inner face of
each pier has 3 notches to left and 3 slots to right to take wooden bars and
the left jamb stone to each arch is marked I to VII in incised Roman
lettering. A circular pitching eye over each arch; moulded stone gutter
brackets. Barn, south gable: circular opening ground floor right; left
return: central board door with tie-stone jambs, circular opening above and
square window to left. This range of farmbuildings is a type which was
developed on model farms in the late C18 and early C19, the cattle being
brought into sheltered aaccommodation with storage for hay above, next to
