House. c1600, remodelled c1850, restored 1986. Originally for the Vavasour
family of Weston Hall (qv), alterations by the Ingilbys of Ripley Castle.
Magnesian limestone with C19 gritstone dressings; stone slate roof. 2
storeys, 3 x 2 bays. Quoins. Central 6-panel door with panel above
decorated with coat of arms and shield of the Vavasour and Ingilby families
in tall eared architrave with cornice. 16-pane sashes to ground and first
floor, sash with glazing bars to first floor, centre, all closely grouped
around the doorcase. Paired corniced ridge stacks. The facade was rendered
when the C19 remodelling took place; the rendering was removed in 1986 and
the original door position to right and blocked windows of the early facade
were revealled to either side of present sashes. The house is the site of a
hunting lodge of the Vavasour family of Weston and was owned by the
Thackwrays of Hampsthwaite before passing to the Ingilbys.
