Packhorse bridge. Probably C18 with C19 repairs. Coursed squared gritstone
and ashlar. Single segmental arch flanked by pilasters carried up as piers
with pyramidal caps. Chamfered projecting band at pathway level, parapet
coping stones tied with iron staples set in lead. Narrow worn stone pathway
repaired with cement flagstones. The stone ramps at each end of the bridge
have square overflow tunnels cut through them. Scheduled Ancient Monument
No 297. Also known as Knox packhorse bridge, it straddles the boundary with
Harrogate.
