5.2.1952 The Old School House

GV II

House and school (now house and tea rooms). Late C18 and 1837. Coursed limestone
with gritstone dressings. Plain tile roof with stone coped gables with kneelers.
Three stone ridge stacks and stone gable end stack. L-plan. North end, an
addition dated 1837. North end is single storeyed, whilst the rest has two
storeys as the ground slopes away to the south. North end in Tudor style with a
canted bay window with moulded mullions and parapet. Lower porch projection at
north east corner with rusticated pilasters and parapet. Central section raised,
with coat of arms. Oak studded door in chamfered stone surround with label and
datestone above. On the roof, a lead covered bellcote. The chimneys on this part
are polygonal.
