11/49 The Coach and Horses
GV II
Public house. Mid C18 with late C19 alteration and C20 extension. Red
brick in English garden wall bond with orange rubbed brick dressings, on
painted chamfered plinth; mock timber framing to part; pantile roof. L-
shaped plan with C20 extension to right. Scarborough Road front: 2-storey,
3-window front, with single-storey range to right. Central C20 half-glazed
door beneath radial-glazed fanlight, within a glazed screen. Tripartite
door-case of fluted pilasters with an entablature and central open pediment.
4-pane sashes with C20 louvred shutters and painted stone sills within keyed
raised surrounds throughout. Traces of earlier flat arches are visible
above the later surrounds. End right stack. C20 extension to right not of
special interest. Stepped and dentilled eaves to both fronts. Rear range
to Low Moorgate: 2-storey, 2-window front, with gable end of front range to
right. 4-panel door with overlight to right of 4-pane sash, with similar
windows over door and to first floor left. Gable end to right has 4-pane
sash to ground floor and mock timber framing to first floor containing a 4-
light oriel window. Painted stone sills and keyed flat arches to all
windows except the oriel. End left and right of centre stacks.
