Schoolmaster's By house and Village School; now Village Hall and attached
house. 1865. J L Pearson. Coursed, squared limestone; part timber-framed;
ashlar dressings; slate roof. High Victorian Gothic. House of 2 storeys
with crosswing, with full-height school hall open to roof to right, gable
end to street and projecting at rear into former play-ground. Irregular
fenestration. Hall gable end: tall 3-light window with Geometrical tracey
on sill band between buttresses. Diagonally-set bellcote above, with
4 openings and octagonal spire. Entrance in pent porch to right has pointed
boarded door with iron hinges, under hood-mould. Schoolmaster's house has
similar door. Above is a half-dormer with pointed gable and 2-light windows
with plate tracery. Crosswing to left: 3-light mullion and transom ground
floor window. Ashlar lintel band runs across facade of the whole building.
Sill. band to same window terminated in the angle of crosswing. The upper
storey is jettied and timber-framed with a half-hipped gable, and contains a
4-light mullion and transom. window. Irregular stacks. Interior contains
