3/14 Bransdale Lodge (also
known as Cockayne Lodge)
GV II
House. Mid-late C19 with later alteration. Herringbone-tooled sandstone
with tooled and ashlar dressings; raised and chamfered quoins; slate roof.
Central stairhall plan with rear service wing to right. 2-storey, 7-bay
front, the centre bay pedimented and projecting. Part-glazed, round-headed
double doors to centre with 3-window canted bay to ground floor right.
Windows to ground floor left and to first floor are single-pane sashes with
stone sills and floating cornice lintels. Raised first-floor band. Moulded
eaves cornice. Hipped roof with end left and left and right of centre
stacks; centre stack to service wing. Rear: 2 original 12-pane sashes
survive. The house occupies a prominent site on a wooded hill at the head
of. the dale.
